What is a Cowabunga Meditation?

Listing the incredible benefits of meditation can fill any experienced meditator up with peace and a fresh state of compassion. Getting to know what style of meditation will feel like home for one’s life is another story, however. Each of the many disciplines available resonate with different aspects of personal evolution in that there seems to be a style for everyone. If you haven’t heard of Cowabunga Meditations yet, you will.

Whether you tune in via the latest recordings on downloadable mp3-or even better-in person if you live or work in the Victoria B.C. area. You will find yourself ‘riding the wave of awesomeness’ and unraveling to your authentic self easily.
This diverse group of meditators just keep coming back for more of this unique flavor of Blissipline. So, exactly what is definitive of a Cowabunga Meditation session? The Vibe. Oh yeah! “Cowabunga” -officially defined as “an aspect greater than cool”- is the kind of heart-centred accepting, free-flowing come-as you-are feeling vibe that invites all walks of life to the cushion and seems to exemplify that we are -as a human race-all one.

Because life is beautifully dynamic, each session -in its authentically human delivery- responds to the various natures of the meditators as they file into the studio and settle in for the adventure. Diverse practitioners are guided on their inner adventure with the assistance of a healthy range of centering and deepening practices. Brad Morris, a young man with a potent personal practice was asked to share his method of meditation in April of 2009; since then the community has been hooked.

When this playfully-wise human being, was recently asked what inspired his personal practice, he referred to a quote he enjoyed from Rev. Michael Beckwith (Agape International Spiritual Centre) “We’re given 24 hours in a day. Committing one hour (less than 5%) of that day to turning within, connecting to that higher presence (also known as Self) is nothing…in fact it’s Everything if you choose to create a powerful, sustainable, loving life!”

Loving is easily the permeating feeling from the group and the product of meditation itself. In a Cowabunga session you can be sure the gathering will be centered around the power of gratitude as this meditation facilitator’s day job is being a full-time GratiDude.  Morris integrates gratitude into the session in the form of prayer which sets the tone of the practice deeply in the heart.  “When you give thanks for the things from your past or the things you dream of in your future, you are actually pulling those feelings of gratitude into the present moment and experiencing them now. When you give thanks for your challenges, you
are actually expressing gratitude for the lesson, blessing and solutions to overcome that very challenge.” Many sessions are capped with Laughter Yoga, ending the experience with a sense of ease and play; you may even feel that you have shed enough years off of your life to join the Cowabunga Kidz sessions!

Cowabunga Kidz classes have been a hit with both the kids and the parents sharing the value of peace, appreciation, listening, breathing, prayer, healing and more. You can tune in to the adventures here: www.cowabungalifestyles.wordpress.com

I’ve been to about 5 meditations so far. Every time is different and each time I have something new happen. Sometimes, while at the meditation, I have an epiphany on how I can improve my life. Other times I just become more aware. I feel myself, in my body, and I recognize that the answers are all there already.

Cowabunga meditations to me is about looking inside, and releasing on the outside. We do some chanting, which at first I thought I would be nervous to chant in front of other people. But it’s actually really invigorating. And every person in the room is there to love themselves and one another.

A lot of what I get out of the meditations comes to my awareness throughout the week. I apply what I’ve learned and my life is better now because of it.

I tell Brad that I think he needs to charge more than $10 for it, because I have found the experience to be life changing. Brad, you’re a generous generous dude :)

    THANK YOU!!!! – Nadine

I’ve only been to one meditation so far, but I can safely say it was just that: A COWABUNGA experience! I’ve participated in many meditations in my life, this one was truly a different one, something clicked with me; i got a feeling that being a part of this journey was something the inner child in me longed for, truly amazing!

The experience left me with a wonderful feeling of satisfaction, love, enlightenment and inspiration/invigoration for Life, not just for that day, but the weeks since.

Brad, you do a wonderful job guiding through the meditation, it is a pleasure and honor to welcome forth the COWABUNGA! – Graham

“Brad is blessed with a unique gift for bringing people together to get clear, centred, grounded, and tuned up. Brad leads these meditations so naturally, with such ease and authenticity. The balance and flow of the session is always just right. It is a true delight to tune-up and tune-in with such a playful, wise, and adventurous spirit. The group chanting is absolutely delicious. Yum! It’s different every time and I’m always glad I went.” – Sandra T.

“I have been meditating with Brad & this group for 4 weeks now and can hardly believe the changes I am already experiencing!! I’m so excited about it I’m just about bubbling over!!! :-) When we began, I was struggling with some issues that I now see had mainly to do with my attitude & stress levels and I have to honestly say, I wasn’t very happy…and hadn’t been for quite some time. This has dramatically changed!! Today I woke up, felt inspired to meditate on my own (something I started doing sporadically by week 2 and more fully this week) and by the time I was done I actually left the house singing…”
